David grew up and was educated in Hobart. After completing general nurse training at the Royal Hobart Hospital, he joined a religious order in Melbourne for two years before returning to Hobart to continue nursing including training as a midwife. In 1988, David joined the Tasmanian Ambulance Service, working in the Northwest and South of the state. He moved from being an operational paramedic to paramedic education in 1994. Over the next seven years, David gained experience in curriculum development, delivery and evaluation and completed a Bachelor of Teaching (Further Education & Training) and Bachelor of Health Science (Pre-Hospital Care). During this time, he also gained experience in management through acting positions within the Service and was an associate lecturer and subject marker at Charles Sturt University. David’s areas of interest are development of learning organisations, organisational behaviour, change management and knowledge management. Outside of work, David likes to maintain his fitness and improve his woodworking skills.
